Ongoing Commitment to Sustainability

Atom takes another step towards reducing its environmental impact

Over the last 18 months, we’ve been making consistent and practical changes across our operations to reduce our carbon footprint and minimise the waste we produce.

One of the first areas we focused on was our packaging. We invested in a cardboard shredder, allowing us to turn our internally generated cardboard waste into reusable packaging material rather than sending it for disposal.

The results have been significant.

Before making this change, our operations were using between 80 and 100 bags of polystyrene packaging every month. Since introducing the cardboard shredder, we’ve reduced this to fewer than 20 bags per month - an 80% reduction in our use of polystyrene beads.

The remaining packaging is now an eco-friendly alternative, which we use where specialist packaging is required.

As well as reducing our reliance on polystyrene, the change has given our waste cardboard a new purpose, helping us to make better use of materials already being generated within our operation.

It’s a great example of how relatively simple changes can have a meaningful impact, and it’s just one part of our wider commitment to sustainability.

We’ll continue to look at different areas of our business and identify practical ways to reduce waste, improve efficiency and make a positive contribution to the environment.
